Farmhouse Family Garden

A family garden with a relaxed, naturalistic feel for a family to enjoy spending time together outside.

This one acre garden surrounds a traditional brick farm house. My brief was to create a family garden with a relaxed feel and my clients wished for grasses and loose, contemporary planting with strong colours and all year round.

The garden is south facing, opening up from the kitchen, so using the existing patio I designed a pergola to frame a seating area close to the back door for BBQs and family get togethers. The existing paving was adjusted to create borders in front of the house, planted with airy grasses and shrub roses which work well with the traditional farmhouse architecture. The pergola is also clothed with rambling roses and fragrant climbers.
